Welcome to ELSA School! This guide will walk you through the essential first steps to set up your account, create classes and lessons, and track your students' progress. Let's begin! ?

1. Create a New Class

First, you'll need a class to put your students in. Think of this as your virtual classroom.

  1. Navigate to the Classes tab on the left-hand menu.

  2. Click the blue + Create Class button on the top right.

  3. A "Create New Class" window will pop up. Fill in the required information:

    • Class name (e.g., "Class A")

    • Educational Level (e.g., "4th Grade")

    • Select existing Teachers (Choose a teacher from the dropdown list)

  4. Click Next to review the details.

  5. Click Create the Class to finish. Your new class will now appear on the dashboard!

2. Add Your Students

Now that you have a class, it's time to add students.

  1. Select the Students tab from the left-hand menu.

  2. Click the + Invite Students button.

  3. You'll have two options:

    • Add Students with Login Alias: Best for small groups (up to 10). This is the method shown in the video.

    • Bulk Invite by uploading XLS/CSV: Ideal for larger classes.

  4. After choosing your option, click Continue.

  5. Enter the student's First Name and Last Name, and select the Class you want to add them to.

  6. Click Continue to confirm. You will receive a success message once the students are added.

3. Create a Lesson

ELSA School allows you to create custom lessons from your own materials or generate them instantly using AI.

Option A: Build a Study Set Manually

Use this option if you already have a list of words or phrases you want to use.

  1. Go to the Curriculum tab on the left-hand menu.

  2. Click + Create Lesson and select Study Set.

  3. In the text box, type or paste your learning materials. Separate each word or phrase with a new line or a semicolon (;).

  4. Click Generate.

  5. Give your lesson a Title (e.g., "Greetings") and click Confirm.

Option B: Co-Create with AI

Let AI do the heavy lifting! This is perfect for creating new, engaging content quickly.

  1. In the Curriculum tab, click + Create Lesson and select Generate Using AI.

  2. In the chat box, tell the AI what you want to create. Be specific! For example: "Create a study set of 10 words to teach students how to order from a restaurant."

  3. The AI will generate a list of words. You can continue the conversation to refine the lesson. For example, you can ask it to "add a cute image" to make the lesson more visual.

  4. Once you're happy with the result, click Create to save the lesson.

4. Assign the Lesson to a Class

After creating your lesson, you need to assign it to your students.

  1. A confirmation window will appear after you create a lesson. Click Assign to classes.

  2. In the "Create Assignment" panel, select the class (or classes) you want to assign the lesson to.

  3. Set the Start Date & Time and the Due Date & Time.

  4. Click Assign Now. Your students will now be able to see and complete the assignment in their Student app: https://student.elsaspeak.com/

5. Track Student Progress in Real-Time

Once students start working, you can easily monitor their performance.

  1. Navigate to the Curriculum tab.

  2. Select the Assignments sub-tab.

  3. Here, you will see a list of all your active assignments. You can view key metrics at a glance, including the Average Score, Completion Rate, and the number of students who have completed the work. This data updates in real-time as students practice.

That's it! You've successfully set up your class, created and assigned a lesson, and learned how to track progress. Happy teaching! ✨
